Zac Brown Restaurant Part of Senoia, GA Tapestry

From “Fried Green Tomatoes” to The Walking Dead,” Senoia, Georgia has created a world of wonder in this small, Southern town which boasts everything from its own sound stage to a local eatery and music venue of country music singer Zac Brown called Southern Ground Social Club.

A cool reflection of country/folk singer Zac Brown’s tastes, his restaurant and music venue, Southern Ground Social Club is on Senoia, Georgia’s Main Street.

Located outside of Atlanta, Georgia, I traveled there recently to tour the 2012 Southern Living Idea House and was pleasantly surprised by all the additional sights including this uber charming restaurant. I’ve written about the home tour on my Forest Home Media blog.

Walking down the Main Street area to the restaurant, fans of the AMC hit show, “The Walking Dead,” will immediately notice familiar landmarks.

The Main Street of Senoia, Georgia where “The Walking Dead” is filmed is just one attraction of this charming Southern town.

I was just so impressed by this charming area which is part of a town revitalization project by developer Scott Tigchelaar and his partner. According to their website, “Senoia Enterprises Inc. and Historic Development Ventures were started by Paul Lombardi and Scott Tigchelaar,of Raleigh Studios – Atlanta. The Historic Senoia Project is a downtown re-development initiative within the Historic District of the City of Senoia, Georgia, originally undertaken by the principals of Raleigh Studios – Atlanta.”

We worked up an appetite touring and the smells that greeted us at the door were so welcomed!

A clever chalk board menu outlines a delicious array of options. We chose Zac’s Pork ‘n Greens and The Farmer’s Daughter. Brown’s twist on the Southern standard cole slaw had a great little kick to it and included corn and tomatoes.

The cole slaw was a great side complement and had a flavorful kick.

Love the finishes of this restaurant including the wall reveal which is a great backdrop for the menu chalkboard.

Sandwiches were presented on a round tin with disposable, biodegradable wooden forks. When I quizzed the restaurant manager “Chuck,” he said Brown is working toward incorporating as many environmentally friendly options as possible. His local farm will hopefully be harvested by kids getting back to nature and attending his soon-to-be opened Camp Southern Ground for kids with special needs.

General manager of the Southern Ground Social Club, Chuck was just one of the super friendly, helpful staff.

For dessert, my dining companion loved the Cranberry and Pear Cobbler with homemade whipping cream.

Iced tea is served in a jelly jar at Southern Ground Social Club. Be sure and ask about Zac Brown’s Camp Southern for special needs kids.

Zac Brown uses the upstairs loft for gigs. Check out the Southern Ground Social Club music schedule on their Facebook page.

Finally, cause I just need to know these things, in the back of the restaurant are individual seating areas with metal pipe railings.

Formerly housing a tattoo parlour, the metal railings still remain lending charm to the back area of the restaurant.

Senoia, Georgia is a great destination spot with plenty of shopping and a very fun trip down movie and television memory lane – including Julianne Hough’s recent “Footloose” remake. When you are in town, be sure and visit the Southern Ground Social Club. From yummy food and ambiance to great, friendly service, we give it two thumbs up!
